Happy Birthday to Me & my sisters

Happy Birthday to me & my sisters today, we are 2 years old. My mom says its hard to believe that 2 years ago today the dr's told her as she was in labor that she should just deliver us and do comfort care * aka * making us comfortable and letting us die. But here we are making new strides everyday. Im so glad my mommy and daddy made the right decision.

So mommy and I went to check out new glasses the other day - here is a preview of what is to come - we picked out purple but the preview is of blue - they didnt have any of that color in the store.

  1. The glasses are cute! (Can't wait to see the purple ones!) My husband had glasses when he was a baby. He also has light perception, but no other usable vision... he doesn't see colors or shadows or movement, just light and dark. He's an attorney by day and an accomplished pianist and vocalist on the weekends. :)

  3. Jessica,
You seem like a terrific mom and you are doing the right things; pursuing every avenue, leaving no stone unturned and lifting the rest up to God! That's great! Don't give up hope, but also know there is so much technology available to these children. I am sure your daughter will do well. My husband went to "mainstream school" at a time when a blind child was given a manual typewriter in one hand, a braillewriter in the other hand, his backpack, his white cane (try managing all that) and a pat on the back with a "Good luck son!" No aide, no reader, no tape recorder. He memorized an awful lot. His tests were read to him and and he typed the answers on a manual typewriter. Can you imagine trying to do that on a math test when you have to show your work? Then he went on to college and law school. He was the first blind student to graduate from the law school he attended (fortunately they had computers by then which made a WORLD of difference!) Things are SO MUCH better now! There are really no barrier for these children (except the ignorance of others) Keep on keeping on, sister! ADVOCATE for your daughter and she WILL have SUCCESS! :)
